Please join us for our fifth parent coffee, Your Middle Schooler's Brain, led by MacArthur Campus learning specialist Kristen Wilkins. This coffee aims to provide parents with information regarding brain development in the middle school years. The discussion will focus mainly on executive function and social cognition—two extremely important topics in the adolescent years. Parents will walk away with both new learnings and practical strategies for how to best support their children's growth at home and in the classroom.

The second of our two parenting peer-group meetings will focus on Positive Discipline on Thursday, February 28, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Leading the workshop will be school counselor Julianne Reilly, who is a certified trainer in Positive Discipline, and Head of Nursery School Paul Lorenzo-Giguere, who trained in Positive Discipline for his work as a preschool classroom teacher. The Nursery School and Lower School teachers are participating in parallel Positive Discipline workshops designed for their classrooms.

The parenting workshop will focus on the home and parent dynamic of this research-based approach to raising responsible, respectful, and resourceful children. It will also give parents a unique insight into an early childhood educator's approach to supporting each child's social and emotional learning in the classroom.

St. Patrick’s is hosting an exciting and dynamic discussion of environmental sustainability on Friday, February 8, from 8:30 to 9:30 am. The Day School has recently launched a number of new initiatives to elevate our commitment to environmental education and sustainability practices.

To this end, we are actively exploring and learning from the experiences and successes of other schools and have invited the Director of Sustainability at Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, Connecticut, to share that school’s experiences with our community. Early childhood science teacher and Outdoor Education Director Sam Mason will also discuss our work towards Eco-Schools accreditation and how this work will promote effective living and learning environments for all of our students. Mr. Mason will present the Day School's evolving efforts to embrace sustainable food, healthy living, and waste management. We welcome, and strongly encourage, our community’s participation and feedback!
