Learn About our After-School Programs
St. Patrick’s offers two enriching programs outside of regular school hours—After-School Clubs and Extended Day—and a third in partnership with Headfirst Summer Camps.
Extended Day
Extended Day offers after-school care until 6:00 pm (5:00 pm on days preceding holidays and school vacations and on the last day of school) for children at all grade levels. The goal of Extended Day is to provide high-quality, after-school care in a group setting. This program provides after-school care until 6:00 pm on a contractual basis for Nursery to Grade 8 students.
Extended Day includes time in study hall for homework (Grades 2 to 8), active and quiet play, an after-school snack, and other special activities. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 who attend Extended Day may also arrange to participate in After-School Clubs. Extended Day is offered to students on a contract basis only. Contracts for students in Nursery to Grade 8 are flexible, providing one-, two-, three-, four-, and five-day coverage. Nursery School students may also contract to attend Extended Day until 2:50 pm or 6:00 pm on Fridays, when Nursery and PK students have a half day and there is no Lunch Bunch.
In addition, children contracted for Extended Day have the option of registering for special activities when the school is closed because of Parent-Teacher Conferences and Professional Days. On those days, parents pay an additional fee for lunch and excursions from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Drop-In Procedures
Drop-In Procedures "Drop-In" care is provided to St. Patrick's students on an emergency basis only as an adjunct of the Extended Day program. Classes typically begin at 3:15 pm and usually run for 45 minutes or an hour. Online registration opens for Session I classes in late August. Online registration for Session II opens in early January. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 are able to enroll in weekly after-school classes arranged in semester blocks. Recent offerings have included chess, yoga, Lego robotics, tennis, and a host of other classes. Information about club offerings, costs, and registration is available on the St. Patrick’s After-School page of the website, which is located under “Student Life”. Study Hall
From Monday to Wednesday, a faculty member proctors a formal study hall from 3:15 to 4:00 pm in the library. (Students in Grades 4 and 5 can avail themselves of classroom-based study halls offered by their teachers, free of charge, Monday to Wednesday.) On Thursdays, when Lower School teachers have faculty meetings, children in study hall join the homework hour in Extended Day. Study Halls provide an opportunity for students in Grades 1 to 5 to study in a quiet atmosphere. Children are invited to drop into study hall.
Headfirst and August Summer Camps at St. Patrick's
We invite children entering Kindergarten to Grade 9 to engage in favorite and new activities, wonder about the world around them, and create their own vision of summer bliss. In partnership with Headfirst Summer Camps, we create engaging, hands-on learning environments using the power of play to delight and inspire. Each week, we immerse our campers in a carefully crafted story, giving them a unique way to understand and experience different types of challenges, to work as a team to achieve a goal, and to learn when they don’t know they’re being taught.
Through our story-centered programming, we aim to strengthen six core developmental skills in our campers: Optimism, resiliency, hope and goal-setting, emotional mastery, self-efficacy, and grit and determination. We call these our Super Six skills. According to research, these traits are the key social and emotional building blocks necessary for authentic happiness and success. Many of these skills are practiced naturally in sports. It’s our goal to infuse them into all of our programs, to help guide campers toward finding their own personal best. To learn more about Headfirst, access the summer brochure, and register online, please visit Headfirst Summer Camps at St. Patrick’s under “Student Life” on the website.
Join St. Patrick’s during the last two weeks of August as we end the summer right! Children ages 3 to 5 are welcome to participate in our full-day Nursery School camp, while our Lower School camp offers August Athletes or Day Trippers camp. August Athletes is open to rising Kindergarten to Grade 5 students, while Day Trippers is for rising Grade 1 to Grade 5 campers.
