Bounce Back to the ’90s Auction a Great Success!

Bounce Back to the ’90s Auction a Great Success!

The Day School community came together in characteristically generous fashion on Saturday, April 23, to celebrate the Fund-A-Scholar IDEALS Auction, the 47th time the Day School has done so to benefit socioeconomic diversity. This year’s theme, Bounce Back to the ‘90s, generated a wonderful creativity among attendees, who joined with hybrid participants for what was truly a night to remember,    engaging our community, both near and far, and raising critical funds for the Financial Aid Program.

The evening was made possible by our talented and energetic parent volunteers, led by our dedicated Auction Co-Chairs—Elizabeth Engel (Annelise ‘21, Truett ‘23), Shannon Powell McCarter (Isla ‘22, Henry ‘24, Adelaide ‘28) and Tashia Senn Jones (Zoe ’27). Bouncing Back to the ‘90s called forth enthusiasm and nostalgia, reflected in all aspects of the Auction, from boom boxes, flip phones, and floppy discs for the menu, to the guests’ throwback costumes and attire from the decade. We will never forget the Ice, Ice, Baby costume and, from Wayne’s World, Wayne and Garth. Party on!

The Fund-A-Scholar IDEALS Auction raised $444,000 to support the education of St. Patrick’s students, making it possible for the Day School to live out its commitment to socioeconomic diversity. Of that total, $400,575 was raised directly through the Fund-A-Scholar initiative. In all, about a quarter of our St. Patrick’s students receive financial aid, but all of our students benefit from this program. The Auction itself raises 20% of the financial aid budget.

As Head of School Peter A. Barrett said, “The Auction is such a wonderful expression of the St. Patrick’s community—the community we are and the community we intend to be. I am deeply grateful to everyone who made such an event, and such a success, possible: Attendees, bidders, donors, sponsors, Patrons, volunteers, and committee members.” Observed Head of School-Elect Jalene Spain Thomas, who was attending her first Auction, “Tonight represents the intersection of mission, tradition, community, and commitment, which continues to inspire me and all who join this amazing community.”
