Young Singers Perform "Velvet Shoes" by Randall Thompson

With the help of technology, students are able to record themselves singing each piece. Mrs. Tyler and Mrs. Petersen then take the tracks and weave them together to create the final product. The piece you will hear today performed by the Young Singers, “Velvet Shoes” by Randall Thompson, is especially timely given the winter weather we have been experiencing lately!

Listening to “Velvet Shoes,” one is instantly transported to a quiet, snowy day. Setting the beautiful words of poet (and D.C. native) Eleanor Wylie, American composer Randall Thompson perfectly captures the hushed feeling of walking in the woods and the excitement of the snow falling. Thompson was a well-known 20th century American composer, particularly noted for his choral works. We hope you enjoy listening to our version of “Velvet Shoes.”
