Wolfhounds on the Move: A Dynamic Winter in Grade 4 Physical Education

As winter settles in, Grade 4 PE has seamlessly transitioned indoors, and the Wolfhounds have embraced gym life with energy and enthusiasm. While the setting may have changed, students continue to stay active, engaged, and challenged as they build both skills and confidence through a dynamic winter PE program.

The season kicked off with an exciting floor hockey unit, where students developed essential game skills through a mix of drills, small-group activities, and team play. Wolfhounds focused on shooting accuracy, controlled passing, and defensive positioning, learning how individual skills contribute to team success. The unit culminated in competitive games that brought an extra level of excitement—including a penalty box—which encouraged students to apply rules, demonstrate sportsmanship, and think strategically during gameplay.

Before winter break—and again upon returning—students shifted their attention to fitness stations designed to promote overall physical wellness. These stations targeted muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility, helping students better understand the components of lifelong fitness. Activities such as squats, wall sits, shuttle runs, push-ups, sit-ups, jump rope, and flexibility exercises kept students moving at a steady pace while challenging them to push their personal limits. Throughout the unit, students practiced perseverance, goal-setting, and self-awareness as they learned why balanced fitness is so important for both athletic performance and daily life.

Looking ahead, the Wolfhounds are excited to transition into a basketball unit, where they will focus on foundational skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Students will have multiple opportunities to practice these skills in supportive settings before finishing the unit with structured games that emphasize teamwork, communication, and fair play.

Even as the temperatures drop, the Grade 4 Wolfhounds remain motivated, positive, and ready to work hard. This winter season in PE continues to foster not only physical growth, but also resilience, collaboration, and a love of movement that extends far beyond the gym.
