The Inspirational Installation of St. Patrick’s Fourth Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas

This past Tuesday, the Day School community gathered at Washington National Cathedral to install our Fourth Head of School, Jalene Spain Thomas. Filled with music from St. Patrick’s students, a heartwarming presentation of gifts, an inspirational homily from The Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde, and moving words from Mrs. Spain Thomas, the service was a jubilant celebration of Jalene and the Day School. At the Nursery School Chapel on Thursday, Father Ed and representatives from the Parish commemorated Jalene’s installation with prayers and presentations designed to connect with our youngest students.

The Day School has benefited from the committed and stable leadership of three Heads of School who have cultivated and maintained the strong tradition of academic excellence within the Episcopal tradition, influenced and contextualized by an ever-changing world. Our three former Heads of School are Isabelle Schuessler, 1966-1986, Robert Peterson, 1986-1994, and Peter A. Barrett, 1994-2022.

As St. Patrick’s moves into this new era, Jalene’s installation service will be remembered as a momentous occasion marking the beginning of her brave leadership of this community. With many well-wishes and a joyous feeling throughout the Cathedral, the light that is St. Patrick’s shines brighter than ever.
