Solar Eclipse Showtime: Viewing Party Recap!

Solar Eclipse Showtime: Viewing Party Recap!

Monday, April 8, marked a truly remarkable event: a total solar eclipse visible from Mexico to Canada. While the DC region was not on the path of totality, we still experienced a partial solar eclipse on Monday afternoon. The St. Patrick’s community gathered for a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party to properly celebrate this memorable event, complete with eclipse viewing glasses and eclipse-themed cookies.

With over 100 parent volunteers, students and adults spread out across both the Whitehaven and MacArthur Campuses to watch the Moon pass between the Earth and the Sun. At 3:20 pm, we marveled as 87.4% of the Sun was eclipsed, soaking in the moment.

The Day School had a blast celebrating such a momentous event as a community! If you are interested in learning more about what exactly happens during a solar eclipse, please check out this video (password: eclipse) of Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas interviewing our wonderful Science Department!
