Rooted in Responsibility: Another Year of Sustainability

We are thrilled to launch another year of St. Patrick’s Sustainability Program, a cornerstone of our mission to inspire engaged, responsible global citizens.

We kicked off the year with a lively Sustainability Cocktail Party last week. More than 60 parents gathered in our beautiful Garden & Outdoor Learning Space to enjoy conversation, cocktails, and delicious light bites, inspired by ingredients from our own garden, prepared by our new food service partner, Meriwether Godsey.

Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas spoke about how our responsibility to shape engaged citizens must include a focus on environmental justice as part of our broader equity and inclusion goals. Guests also heard from Lora John, the Parents Association VP for Service and Sustainability, and learned more about ways families can support and participate in this important work.

Our students are also reconnecting with the Garden & Outdoor Learning Space as part of their fall curriculum. Classes have been exploring seasonal changes, learning about native plants and pollinators, and discovering some of the many critters who call our garden home, including Northern Brown Snakes, Bess Beetles, and Leopard Slugs. Each visit deepens students’ understanding of the natural world and builds a sense of stewardship for the environment around them.

Thank you to the many families and faculty members who support our Sustainability Program, one of the defining pillars of the St. Patrick’s experience. The next family sustainability event, the Wolfhound Family Hike, will take place on Sunday, November 8, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. All are welcome!  For questions about the program, please reach out to Alexa Louis or Will Cook, our Sustainability Coordinators.
