Rooted in Community: A Joyful Earth Day Celebration

In honor of Earth Day, PK3 through Grade 8 students came together on April 21 in the Garden & Outdoor Learning Space for a joyful, hands-on celebration of the natural world. Throughout the day, students rotated through five interactive stations designed to spark curiosity, encourage stewardship, and deepen their connection to the environment. The experience was made even more special with the support of Middle School volunteers, who helped guide younger students and foster a strong sense of community across grade levels.

Highlights included the Seed Balls and Veggie Tasting stations, where students got their hands dirty in the best way, crafting seed balls that they then planted to support future growth. They also sampled fresh vegetables (including spinach from the Garden!), making meaningful connections between the Day School’s campus and the food on their plates. Together, these stations created a dynamic and engaging Earth Day experience, one that blended science, sustainability, and sensory exploration.

The following Saturday, more than 100 volunteers dug, planted, ate, and shared fellowship in the Garden and Outdoor Learning Space for our community-wide Earth Day Celebration. This fun-filled day of community building and celebration reflected St. Patrick’s commitment to protecting Earth’s natural resources for the children at home and worldwide.

The Day School extends its heartfelt thanks to the Science Department, parent volunteers, faculty, staff, and students for creating such a memorable Earth Day filled with engaged activities, teamwork, and discovery. Through their thoughtful planning and ongoing work throughout the school year, our Day School Science teachers continue to inspire students to develop a deep appreciation for the Earth, environmental stewardship, sustainability, and the important role each of us plays in caring for our world and community.
