Please Enjoy Recordings of the Holiday Concert and Pageants

Please enjoy the recordings of our Holiday Concert and Christmas Pageants! December was an especially busy and energizing time at St. Patrick’s as there was a festive, almost electric, buzz in the air as students prepared for our Holiday Concert, special projects, and our annual Christmas Pageants.

Click the links below to view recordings of each event. We hope these celebrations bring you joy in this new year!

Holiday Concert

Music teachers Alicia Knox, Laura Petersen, and Betsy Sebring invite you to watch the recording of our Holiday Concert! The combined choirs opened the concert with a lively piece that had a medieval feel and featured percussion as well as upbeat singing. Other choral selections included arrangements of familiar holiday tunes in addition to a beautiful setting of Eleanor Wylie’s winter poem, “Velvet Shoes.” Our Grades 7 and 8 Choir and Grades 5 and 6 Young Singers were joined by our Faculty and Staff choir for a beautiful finale to the evening.

The handbell groups offered a selection of familiar carols and folk songs. Grade 6 bells played a crowd pleaser, “Frosty the Snowman.” Viewers will surely enjoy the lyrical setting of “Coventry Carol,” played by Grade 7 bells. Grade 8 bells performed a joyful arrangement of the well-known carol, “Ding, Dong, Merrily on High.” Orff Ensemble performed a delightful Orff Schulwerk favorite arranged by the students.

Nursery School, Kindergarten, and Grade 8 Pageant

Grades 1-7 Pageant

The beauty, tradition, and spirit of the Christmas Pageant ushered in the holiday season for children and their families at St. Patrick’s. As has been the tradition for many years, three Grade 2 students play the parts of the Kings and sing solos in the Grades 1-7 Pageant. This year, Jett M., Ellie S., and Henry T. were the Kings.

Upon our return from the Christmas holiday, three additional Grade 2 students—Harrison A., Owen P., and Jaël S.—sang solos as Kings in our Kindergarten-Grade 8 Epiphany Chapel on Friday, January 6.

The Kings were selected as part of an audition process conducted in music classes. After learning the carol "We Three Kings," Grade 2 students sang the first verse in front of their classes. Music teachers selected six individuals to perform the solos, three at the Christmas Pageant and three at the Epiphany Chapel, based on each singer's pitch, clarity, and volume.

There was an additional solo opportunity for one Grade 7 or Grade 8 student in each of the pageants. That soloist performed the first verse of the carol "Once in Royal David's City" from the balcony of the Nave before the rest of the choir joins them from below.

This year's soloists were Grade 8 student John T., who performed at the 9:30 am pageant, and Grade 7 student Maddie M., who performed at the 11:00 am pageant. The Music Department selected these students after an audition process, open to all Grades 7 and 8 students, which required them to learn the carol and perform it for the music teachers on-site in the Nave.
