PK3B’s Pumpkin Pie Party: A Sweet Twist on Halloween Fun!

PK3B’s Pumpkin Pie Party: A Sweet Twist on Halloween Fun!

This October, Ms. Gambal and Mr. Boyarski’s PK3B Bumblebee class has been buzzing with Halloween spirit—and pumpkins! To celebrate the season and explore new learning experiences, Mr. Boyarski had a delicious idea: why not bake pumpkin pies on a day with no specials? It was the perfect chance to show the children a different side of pumpkins, turning them from Halloween décor into a tasty treat and a hands-on lesson in baking.

The children were thrilled to dive into the pie-making process! Divided into small groups, each child had a role to play, whether cracking eggs, mixing in the canned pumpkin and condensed milk, or adding a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. For some, it was an exciting opportunity to showcase skills they’d learned at home, from mixing to seasoning. As they measured and stirred, the children were able to share their background knowledge and collaborate in the kitchen.

After their pies were ready for the oven, the class headed to the staff kitchen for the grand baking moment. The anticipation was high as they watched the pies go into the oven before heading out for playground time to wait patiently while the pies baked and cooled.

When the pies were finally ready, PK3B took their pumpkin pie party outside! With Halloween music playing and a mini dance party underway, the children gathered around for their first bites. For those who chose to taste it, the pie was a hit! The children were delighted by the fruits of their hard work, proud of what they had created together.

This pumpkin pie adventure was a sweet break from the ordinary and a wonderful way to build teamwork, confidence, and creativity. With such success, PK3B is already looking forward to more “specials-free” cooking days in the future.
