Middle School Students Travel to Iceland for an Adventure-Filled Trip

Following Graduation, twenty-seven students from the MacArthur Campus joined trip-leader Director of Development and Grade 7 Advisor Chris Bolger and chaperones Nursery teacher Angie Blake-Moore and Grade 1 teacher Brodie Edgerton for the adventure of a lifetime in Iceland.

Ten students from our rising Grade 7, twelve students from our rising Grade 8, and five recent graduates from the Class of 2024 departed from the United States for a nine-day-long trip organized by our partners at the tour company Green Edventures. The trip consisted of various action-packed activities, including hiking on the Kötlujökull glacier and into an ice cave, horseback riding, and kayaking through lagoons. Participants also learned about Iceland’s commitment to environmental sustainability and geothermal energy. The bravest among them tried traditional Icelandic dishes, including fermented shark and sheep face pate, and learned about the importance of minimizing food waste from an Icelandic farmer. Finally, the group was lucky to end their time in the capital city of Reykjavik on the same day as Icelandic National Day, the country’s equivalent of our Independence Day, where the group went to a festival for games and performances by Icelandic musicians!

Trip leader Chris Bolger reflects on the trip: “I am so thrilled to report on the success of the Iceland trip! This is the second time that St. Patrick’s has visited ‘the land of ice and fire’ and it was delightful to be able to experience it alongside these twenty-seven curious and energetic students. As a Middle School Advisor, it is a particular treat to witness our students thriving while experiencing a new culture, cuisine, and environment. Thank you to these students for serving as excellent ambassadors of St. Patrick’s and to their parents for encouraging them to participate in this magical trip!”
