On Tuesday, October 22, students from fifteen area Episcopal schools gathered at the Washington National Cathedral for the annual Episcopal Schools Celebration Service themed "Let Your Light Shine," hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association. The grandeur of the cathedral amplified the energy in the room, setting the stage for a memorable gathering.
Representing St. Patrick’s, our Grade 5 students attended this special service where three representatives proudly carried our school banner as part of the processional. Throughout the service, attendees were treated to multiple student readers, a lively anthem, prayers, a homily, and getting to join together in song. Hearing the organ was a thrilling experience! As the organ resonated throughout the nave, its powerful notes reverberated as we sang the hymns, creating a communal atmosphere that celebrated their shared values and aspirations.
Another highlight of the service came with an impassioned homily, delivered with warmth and enthusiasm. The speaker inspired the students to embrace their unique gifts and talents, urging them to shine their light brightly in their communities and beyond. The message resonated deeply, encouraging each student to reflect on their individual contributions to the world, and reinforcing the idea that even the smallest acts of kindness can illuminate the lives of others. As the service drew to a close, the sense of unity and purpose was palpable, leaving the students invigorated and ready to carry the message of hope and light into their daily lives. As the homilist asked the students and we now ask you, how will you let your light shine?
