Inspiring Voices: The Grade 7 Coffee House Experience

I loved ending last week nestled in the warm, inviting church hall around the crackling fireplace, surrounded by our Grade 7 students and parents. The atmosphere was filled with beautiful music, original poetry offered by our talented students, and inspiring artwork that truly captured their creativity. This winter, our Grade 7 students poured their hearts into preparing for this special performance, the Grade 7 Coffee House, which took place on January 24. Their performances, featuring both well-known songs and impressive original compositions, highlighted their diverse talents and passions. This new signature event highlights our dedication to providing students with valuable opportunities to refine their performance skills, take pride in their achievements, and offer parents a meaningful glimpse into the synergy between teaching and learning at the Day School.

Over the past few months, Grade 7 students have been working hard to master favorite pieces of music to perform at our Coffee House. Under the direction of Music Teacher Alicia Knox, students chose songs,  arranged their pieces, and practiced to perform for an audience. Additionally, the students completed a poetry unit where they explored a wide range of poetic styles, drawing inspiration from classic and modern poets alike. They experimented with different themes and literary techniques, creating original works that beautifully reflected their thoughts and emotions. It was incredible to witness their growth as musicians, writers, and performers, as they gained confidence in sharing their voices.

I am so proud of our Grade 7 students for their dedication, creativity, and bravery in sharing their pieces.

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated Middle School faculty for their unwavering guidance and support throughout this enriching experience, and to our families for their encouragement. We are eager to continue celebrating the incredible creativity of our students in the months ahead.
