From Wednesday, May 8 to Friday, May 10, we hosted three days of events to celebrate and support the long-standing partnership between St. Patrick’s and St. Etienne Church and School in Haiti. The event started with an introduction to Hoops for Haiti for all students in Nursery, PK, and Kindergarten, where students played basketball-inspired games in stylish commemorative sunglasses. On Thursday, 200 students in Grades 1-5 played knockout games at the Foxhall Campus.
The event culminated on Friday in our 3-on-3 basketball tournament for students in Grades 6-8. At the Middle School Hoops for Haiti, 90 students were assigned teams and competed against each other in a March Madness-style bracket until we crowned a team of champions. Congratulations to Jack I., Naomi L., and Eric W., our winning team! A shout-out goes to our runner-up team of Eli C., Jasmine D., and Anthony M., and our third-place team of Charlie D., Bryce P., and William R. St. Patrick’s was excited to welcome back over twenty alumni who joined us to volunteer as referees and support at the event!
Thank you to the Haiti Committee, consisting of Chris Bolger, Victoria Gibson, Mary Beth James, Sam Mason, and Lindsay Spector, for all of their hard work planning this beloved event! All of the fun and competition was in support of raising a record-breaking $64,000 to support our partnership! Since 1979, our Haiti partnership has been one of our most cherished friendships and an integral part of our strategic work to make St. Patrick’s a more globally conscious community. Contact Haiti Committee Co-Chair Chris Bolger with any questions about our Haiti partnership!
