Our Grades 7 and 8 choir members (44 in total) joined together with students from Bullis School, Georgetown Day School, Holton-Arms School, National Cathedral School, St. Albans School, and Stone Ridge to form a joint choir of 300 singers for the annual Middle School Choral Festival. This year, the event took place on March 11 at Georgetown Day School.
The repertoire featured contemporary composers, most of whom are still living, representing a diverse group of individuals from around the world. The students sang selections in English, Latin, and Malay, and even included some body percussion. Audience members joined in the fun, adding their voices to the song “Love Is Love Is Love Is Love,” composed by Abbie Betinis. Student speakers were highlighted as they introduced each piece and provided the audience with more context about what they were about to hear. A connecting thread ran through all the music, encouraging a sense of love, kindness, and community.
This presents an incredible opportunity for our singers to perform with such a large ensemble, learn from other choir conductors, and connect with new peers from other schools. The excitement in the room was palpable!
