Last week, the Grades 5 and 6 Young Singers performed with over 300 other students from six local schools as part of the Twentieth annual Independent Lower Schools Treble Choir Festival. Each school performed one piece on their own before combining to sing three beautiful pieces to conclude the evening.
St. Patrick’s Young Singers wowed the audience with a lovely Finnish folk song, Who Can Sail? Hearing the combined choirs sing a stunning two-part piece entitled Lunar Lullaby by Jacob Narverud was exciting. Using Victor Hugo’s words, composer Abbie Betinis composed a haunting five-part canon, Be Like the Bird. The sound of the children’s voices soared throughout the reverberant cathedral! The concert concluded with a rousing rendition of Hold Out Your Light by Rollo Dilworth. The singers impressed an appreciative audience on such a special evening.
