Grade 6 Students Use Design-Thinking Skills for Gingerbread House Project

This was a festive way for our students to get into the holiday spirit while using their design-thinking and artistic skills. Our five Grade 6 advisories were divided into 10 design teams. On Tuesday, the teams gathered to plan and draw their gingerbread houses. To put their own spin on it, each team was allowed to request additional candies to help perfect their designs.

On Friday, teams used their advisory time to decorate their pre-constructed gingerbread houses. One team creatively used Airheads to form a Santa Claus on the roof, another designed the floating house from the movie “Up,” and another made a house around the famous song by The Beatles, “The Yellow Submarine,” which was the winning design!

Votes were cast by members of the St. Patrick’s faculty and staff current and past, as Friday was also the day that members of our faculty emeriti visited campus to meet Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas. Congratulations to all of the creative designs!
