Students chose a pattern of fabric that appealed to them and then tore narrow strips of the fabric. After finding their own space along the fence line, students started weaving a shape or design. Each group had only 20 minutes for their portion of the installation. Then they had to turn the process over to the next group, who had to respond to the work already done by others. Many chose to build onto the shapes and designs already started by others.
The students navigated between the physicality of the large tearing motions (their favorite!) for the strips of fabric and then the small movements needed to weave through the small wire holes. What came together was a wonderfully crafted piece of artwork. Congratulations to our talented Grade 5 students!
