Young Poets Shine in Grade 2 Poetry Celebration

Students in Grade 2 have spent the last several weeks immersed in the study of poetry, exploring its rhythm, structure, and expressive possibilities. On Friday, February 27, they proudly shared what they learned, experienced, and created during a special poetry celebration.

Poetry, with its limitless forms, provides many opportunities to connect to music and movement. Throughout the unit, each class read many different types of poems and thoughtfully decided how they would present each piece. Some groups incorporated sound effects using unpitched percussion instruments, while others introduced visual props to enhance specific lines and deepen meaning. Every student carefully considered how movement and expressive speech could bring a poem to life.

Each Grade 2 homeroom collaborated to create an original performance to share with the audience, showcasing both their creativity and their growing confidence as readers and performers.

In addition to their performances, students were excited to present a collection of poetry they wrote in their homerooms. The beautifully bound books were a pleasure to read and served as a meaningful culmination of their hard work and imagination.
