Another Year of Sustainability at St. Patrick's: Updates from the Garden

We are thrilled to launch another year of the Sustainability Program! For parents, we celebrated with a Sustainability Cocktail Party last week. Over sixty-five guests gathered in our beautiful Garden & Outdoor Learning Space to share fellowship and cocktails and light bites sourced from the bountiful harvest of our beloved garden. Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas spoke about how our commitment to shaping engaged citizens must include a focus on environmental justice in our broader equity and inclusion goals. Rima Toukan and Arianna Ugliano, the Co-Chairs of the Parent Sustainability Team, told guests about the many ways they can get involved in the dynamic and thriving Parent Sustainability Team. Their next event is the Wolfhound Family Hike coming up on Sunday, November 5. You can click here to join us!

Our students have also enjoyed the Garden & Outdoor Learning Space the last few weeks. In Nursery School, our youngest students learn about different types of root vegetables, while our Lower School students spend time mulching, weeding, composting, and learning about the hay bale gardens. Our Middle School students visit the garden during long advisory periods. Grade 7 was thrilled to pull carrots and sweet potatoes and are discussing ways to cook and taste these vegetables! Every trip to the garden includes finding all sorts of local critters, including Northern Brown Snakes, Bess Beatles, and Leopard Slugs.

Thank you to the many constituents who support our Sustainability Program, one of the pillars of the St. Patrick's experience!
