Flagpole Ceremony Takes Place on MacArthur Campus

Flagpole Ceremony Takes Place on MacArthur Campus

On Tuesday, June 4, the St. Patrick’s community dedicated a new flagpole at the MacArthur Campus! The event began with opening remarks from Head of School Jalene Spain Thomas, followed by a blessing of the flagpole by The Rev. Andrew Ogletree.

We were fortunate to have had alumnus Lieutenant Thomas A. Duckenfield, III ex. ’76 join us for the ceremony. He served as a first and second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, a captain in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, and an attorney in the Army General Counsel's Honors Program in the Office of the Secretary of the Army. In addition to his military service, Lt. Duckenfield has been a loyal steward of St. Patrick’s and currently serves on the Board of Trustees.

We also invited members of the Class of 2020 who are attending service academies this fall: Henry Singer ’20, United States Military Academy (West Point); and Wesley Solomon ’20, United States Naval Academy. Henry graduated from the Bullis School and Wesley will graduate from St. Albans School this upcoming weekend. Our Student Leadership Council and Grades 5-8 students also participated in the ceremony.

Specialist Hiram Kenneth Brewton III, ‘11, additionally participated in the dedication. Mr. Brewton recently completed eight years in the Army, serving in the United States Army Reserve Command, including the 335th Signal Command, 375th Quartermaster Command, and 392nd Signal Battalion.

To close out the ceremony, Physical Education teacher and talented musician Gordon Jones played a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner on the saxophone, enjoyed by all. St. Patrick’s has flagpoles at the Foxhall and Whitehaven Campuses, and we were excited to dedicate the new MacArthur Campus flagpole on Tuesday. Thank you to all who attended!
