Faculty Member, Gordon Jones, Jazz Presentation

During Black History month, Grade 4 Teacher Sam Hart’s 4B class learned about the jazz music genre, its historical value, and its influence on music today. As a special treat, St. Patrick’s own Physical Education teacher, Gordon Jones, shared his expertise as a saxophone player and a lifelong musician. Mr. Jones interspersed playing both the tenor and alto saxophones with information about jazz and its importance.

He stressed that becoming virtuosic about the craft provided freedom and liberation for the player. Mr. Jones also talked about the importance of having a broad array of experiences and genres of music in order to be an even better contributor to any ensemble. The 4B students also got to play their recorders to share a little jazzy piece they had been working on for Mr. Jones. It was so exciting to experience the talents of one of our own St. Patrick’s community members!
