Faculty and Staff Professional Day Focuses on EDI and Crisis Management

The Professional Development Day offered each faculty and staff member three sessions of EDI-focused Professional Development. Using the Teaching and Learning Center Model, faculty and staff led all sessions and provided differentiation through the 17 choices. Faculty and staff session leaders shared their expertise in topics of equity, diversity, inclusion, justice, and belonging for all facets of our professional lives. Courses ranged from offering context and history around antisemitism and gender to discussing best practices in areas such as cultural appropriation versus appreciation in the curriculum. Many courses offered a chance to examine one’s own identity, biases, and relationships.

Faculty and Staff surveyed on their experiences were grateful for the time to learn from their colleagues.

In addition to the EDI and Belonging sessions, time was dedicated to learning and practicing safety protocols. Faculty and staff completed drills and heard from consultant, Les Nichols, who offered a holistic approach to identifying St. Patrick’s safety and security issues.
