Exciting Changes in Wolfhound Athletics: Expanding Opportunities for Grade 5!

I have been pleased to join Director of Athletics Seamus Brophy and Associate Head of School and Head of Middle School Dan Spector in regular conversations and collaborations to ensure that our athletic program continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our students.

We are excited to announce that beginning next school year, Grade 5 students will be eligible to join our Junior Varsity teams as the Wolfhounds compete against other teams in the Capital Athletic Conference. Sports offerings available will include soccer and cross country in the fall, and lacrosse and track & field in the spring. We are excited about this development and look forward to seeing our Grade 5 students thrive in this enhanced athletic environment.

Our Developmental Sports Program has provided exciting opportunities for students in Grades 4 and 5 to refine their skills alongside grade-level peers in basketball and soccer during Saturday morning sessions. While we have been pleased with our developmental athletics programming, our return to previous practice aligns us with many of the other schools in our conference and provides our athletes with opportunities to challenge themselves in competitive settings, develop lasting connections with their older peers, and refine their athletic skills.

Sincere thanks to Seamus Brophy, Director of Athletics, and Shyrone Palms, Assistant Athletic Director for forwarding these and other enhancements. We are thrilled to enter the third year of the Day School's first-ever baseball team, which has brought enthusiasm and energy to our overall programming. Seamus and Shyrone are piloting our Open Gym programming this basketball season, providing students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 with an opportunity to sharpen their skills and stay active outside of team practices. The positive feedback from our students and families has been encouraging, and we are excited to see this programming continue.

I look forward to seeing you on the sidelines and in the bleachers as we cheer on our athletes this winter and spring! Our sports schedule is featured at the top of HoundsTruth each Sunday.
