Earth Day Festivities and Sustainability at St. Patrick’s

For Earth Day this year, the Garden Team called on teachers, parents, and friends to work together to beautify the shared garden spaces at the Whitehaven Campus, teach students about sustainability during morning meetings, and prepare the garden on Foxhall Campus for the warmer months.

On Friday, April 21, the Nursery School rotated through four stations on the  Primary Grades Playground. Students planted flowers, taste-tested vegetables, and learned about animal care and sustainability. In the Lower and Middle Schools, teachers created or used lessons by Eby Okonkwo, Spanish Teacher and Garden Team Leader, on sustainability-themed topics such as climate change, waste management, fossil fuels, and energy.

On Saturday, April 22, Earth Day, the Garden Team had 150 volunteers who dug, planted, ate, and shared fellowship in the Garden and Outdoor Learning Campus. This fun-filled day of community building and celebration reflected St. Patrick’s commitment to protecting Earth’s natural resources for the children at St. Patrick’s and worldwide. The celebration even included the opportunity to purchase secondhand St. Patrick’s logo wear at a discounted price!

The Garden Team thanks the Sustainability Team, parent volunteers, teachers, administrators, and students for a memorable Earth Day filled with engaged activities, teamwork, and discovery!
