Before Winter Break, a dynamic delegation of ten individuals from our Day School community embarked on an enriching journey to St. Louis, Missouri, immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the 2023 People of Color Conference (PoCC), hosted by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). This year's conference, themed "Gateways to Freedom: A Confluence of Truth, Knowledge, Joy, and Power," promised an exploration of profound ideas and transformative experiences.
Originating from the inaugural National Conference for Teachers and Administrators of Color in Independent Schools in 1986, the PoCC has evolved into a paramount event. More than three decades later, the annual NAIS PoCC, along with the accompanying NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference, unites over 8,000 individuals from the independent school realm, fostering connections, sharing insights, and celebrating diversity in education.
