Celebrating Excellence: Highlights from the 45th Annual Recitation Contest

The first-place winner of the 45th Annual Michael C. Leuthe Recitation Contest on Tuesday, March 17, was Annelise P. ‘27, who excelled with Emma Watson’s September 2014 HeForShe United Nations speech. Kiran P. ‘26 recited the satirical Amazon review “This Cube Cured My Mortality” by Richard Behiel and tied for second place with Parker S. ‘28 who shared the poem “Sometimes I Don’t Want to Share” by Chris Harris. And, with a performance of “The Speech to the Troops at Tilbury” by Queen Elizabeth I of England, Lyric M. ‘27 placed third.

During the contest, members of the audience—students, families, faculty, and staff—were moved by the competitive performances of students in Grades 5 to 8. Judges Zachary Hooper, Terry Manago, and Dr. Joneis Thomas, all parents of Day School graduates, remarked how enjoyable it was to listen to and score the powerful performances.

Librarians Ms. Felton and Ms. Rosenberg expressed their excitement that another successful competition has strengthened the love and support the St. Patrick's community has for literature and public speaking. Congratulations to Annelise P., Kiran P., Parker S., Lyric M., and all of the finalists and alternates for their hard work!
