This year's Annual Michael C. Leuthe Recitation Contest, held on Friday, March 15, resulted in tie, ,with Sydney F. '27 excelling with "Gloria’s Monologue" by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach from The Barbie Movie, and Miles B. ’25 captivating the audience with "The Day the War Came," a poem by Nicola Davies. Alexa P. ’25, who recited President John F. Kennedy’s "We Choose to Go to the Moon" speech, placed second. And, with a performance of "Like Totally Whatever" by Melissa Loazado Oliva, Trevi GR. '24 placed third.
During the contest, members of the audience—students, families, and faculty and staff—were moved by the orations by student contestants from Grades 5 to 8. Judges Marion Smith Buglione '04, who earned first place in the Recitation Contest as a Grade 6 student, Kim Dreux-Kelly, the mother of two St. Patrick's alumni, Kelsey Jordan-Kelly '06 and Jack Kelly '15, and Cameron Goodman, a Washington, D.C. native married to St. Patrick's alumnus Keith Carr '94, all remarked after their service what a joy it was to listen to and score the powerful performances.
Librarians Ms. Felton and Ms. Rosenberg shared their excitement that another successful Recitation Contest once again strengthened the love and appreciation that the St. Patrick's community has for literature and public speaking.
