Alvin Ailey Dance Theater Returns to St. Patrick’s for 11th Year of Partnership

St. Patrick’s was delighted to welcome back artists from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for their 11th year on campus, continuing a decade-long partnership that brings world-class arts experiences directly to our students.

During their visit, Alvin Ailey artists worked with Grade 2 students in an engaging, hour-long session focused on the essential elements of a performance routine. Students explored how choreography is built piece by piece, learning how individual movements come together to tell a story. Through guided practice and rehearsal, students refined their work, developing both confidence and pride as they prepared a finished piece.

As part of the experience, students learned selections from the world-famous Revelations, connecting them to a historic and powerful work that has inspired audiences around the globe for generations. The session emphasized collaboration, perseverance, and creative expression, giving students a glimpse into the discipline and joy of professional dance.

Later in the week, Kindergarten-Grade 8 students attended a special assembly featuring a live, interactive performance by artists from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the St. Patrick’s Gymnasium and Performance Center. Students—including Aiden S. ’26, Karter S. ’28, Bo R. ’29, Liam T. ’30, Thea S. ’30, Cyrus M. ’31, Whit K. ’31, Audrielle L. ’31, Owen M. ’32, and Isele A. ’33—were invited on stage to participate in a dance workshop.

This dynamic presentation showcased the vibrancy of modern dance and celebrated the rich cultural heritage embodied in Alvin Ailey’s work. Students also learned about the artists’ professional journeys and had the chance to ask questions. The assembly was an unforgettable experience that inspired awe and curiosity in students of all ages.

We are proud to celebrate 11 years of hosting Alvin Ailey artists at St. Patrick’s and grateful for the lasting impact this partnership continues to have on our students. Experiences like these reflect our commitment to nurturing the whole child through meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities.
