On April 26, the US Department of Education announced the 41 schools nationwide that would be receiving Green Ribbon awards for outstanding work in environmental sustainability. St. Patrick’s was one of three schools in DC chosen, the only independent elementary school in the District picked for this award, and the only Episcopal school selected in the country. We were recognized for our “innovative efforts to reduce environmental impacts and utility cost, improve health and wellness, and offer effective sustainability education.” The award also highlighted the successful sustainability projects our environmental teams have led each year.
The Sustainability Program at St. Patrick’s has been a full community effort since the program’s founding in 2017. This vital program has been driven by the engagement of students, faculty and staff, and parents as we focus on curricular integrations, facilities improvement, and community outreach. We host hikes, family gardening events, parent receptions, and more throughout the year. Please check out our sustainability website page for updates and information.
