SUPERB SECONDARY SCHOOLS AWAIT GRADUATING CLASS OF 2019 The diversely talented members of the Class of 2019 have earned an array of excellent choices from among the independent day and boarding schools to which they applied this year. As a result, they will move on to secondary school programs that will continue to engage and challenge them. The 14 girls and 19 boys who comprise this Grade 8 class have much to be proud of in what they have accomplished at St. Patrick's as they complete their careers here and turn their attention to their school-homes for the next four years. NO SCHOOL TOMORROW—GOOD FRIDAY Please note that there will be no school tomorrow—Friday, April 19—as we observe Good Friday. We wish everyone a happy Easter and a joyous Passover. We will welcome students back on Monday, April 22. EASTER CHAPEL ON MONDAY, APRIL 22 Please join us for our annual Easter Chapel for a celebration of new life on Monday, April 22, at 8:30 am in the Nave. We will sing hymns of Easter joy and hear the story of the resurrection of Jesus. The homily will reflect on what it means to follow Jesus as the Beloved Community in a world in need of the light that love bears. The MacArthur Campus Chamber Singers will sing Woyaya after the homily. Please join us as we gather together to celebrate the resurrection and a call to love one another. As always, all are welcome to attend. JOYOUS PASSOVER! Passover, also known as Pesach, is a holiday during which Jewish people remember the Exodus when the ancient Hebrews, with the help of God, escaped from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins this year at sundown on Friday, April 19, and lasts seven or eight days. SAVE THE DATE: "A GREAT DAY TO BE A WOLFHOUND" ON APRIL 30! Mark your calendars for "A Great Day to Be a Wolfhound," St. Patrick's inaugural spring day of giving and school spirit, on Tuesday, April 30. All students (and parents!) are encouraged to dress in Wolfhound spirit gear to celebrate St. Patrick's as we join together to meet or exceed the 2018-2019 Annual Fund goals of $1 million+ and 100% parent participation. All students in grades that surpass 90% participation in the Annual Fund by the end of April 30 will receive something special—stay tuned for more details! Ready to give now and move your children's grade level participation toward 100%? Thank you for supporting the Day School and remember: It's all about COMMUNITY! MANY THANKS TO DAY SCHOOL COMMUNITY FOR RALLYING FOR SEVENTH ANNUAL HOOPS FOR HAITI TOURNAMENT Community members came together in a big way for the Day School's annual Marcy Ference Hoops for Haiti 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. More than half of Day School students—266, to be exact—participated in the event, with 164 players and 102 Superfans cheering them on. Our collective efforts raised nearly $28,000. Combined with the Haiti Art Show and Gifts for Good this school year, this community has raised nearly $40,000 for the students of St. Etienne, an impressive level of generosity!

A MEMORABLE AFTERNOON WITH AUTHOR PATRICIA POLACCO Students in Grades 1 to 4 had a memorable afternoon last week with award-winning author Patricia Polacco. Ms. Polacco visited the Whitehaven Campus as part of her greater-Washington, D.C. independent school tour to share her classic picture books Meteor and The Keeping Quilt, published in 1987 and 1988, respectively. The author-illustrator of more than 115 children's books proved she is indeed a master storyteller. As she talked about the night a meteor fell into her grandparents' yard, Ms. Polacco expertly wove in stories about her family history. That she came from a loving family of European immigrants who were also storytellers strengthened her narration of her family's precious quilt. Further, with bravery, wisdom, and humor, she described her childhood experiences with a learning difference and with bullying.
