AS HEAD OF SCHOOL FOR THE DAY—FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26—GRADE 3 STUDENT MORGAN SABEL FOCUSES ON PAJAMAS, PIZZA, AND PUDDING Each year at the Auction to Benefit the Financial Aid Program, one or two lucky students get the opportunity to serve alongside Head of School Peter A. Barrett as Head of School for the Day. Next week—on Friday, October 26—3B's Morgan Sabel will fill that role, from morning-arrival carpool through the call to dismissal at the end of a full day. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES START TOMORROW FOR GRADES 1 TO 8 There will be no school TOMORROW—Friday, October 19—or Monday, October 22, for students in Grades 1 to 8 so that parents and teachers (and students in Grades 7 and 8) can meet for fall conferences. The Nursery School (Nursery and PK), and Kindergarten will remain open for regular classes on both of those days. Their Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 10. Childcare is available while parents are attending their conferences, and Extended Day coverage is available for students who are contracted for that program. SECOND LOOK
THE ADMISSION OFFICE NEEDS YOUR HELP! We hope you will share your wonderful St. Patrick's stories with family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues—word-of-mouth is how most families find us! In addition, please let your network know about our upcoming admission events: NEW FLU INFORMATION FOR 2018-2019 Please review this important information about our current flu season. We have already started to see students with positive flu test results. Symptoms reported by students vary but include fever, cold-like symptoms, feeling sluggish, sore throat, and vomiting. The Health Office does track any reported positive flu reports so that we can identify any patterns early. HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS AND PARADES—WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31 The Nursery and PK Halloween Parade begins at 9:00 am, and the Kindergarten to Grade 8 Parade begins at 1:45 pm on Wednesday, October 31. On Halloween, and throughout the year, we want to be respectful of the traditions and beliefs of every family in our school. If, for religious reasons, your child will not be wearing a Halloween costume, please let his/her teacher know so that we can respond appropriately and supportively. HALLOWEEN COSTUME SELECTIONS NEED FAMILIES' THOUGHTFUL CONSIDERATION At month's end, St. Patrick's will celebrate Halloween with our traditional parades for all students. Our enjoyment of Halloween stems in large part from the positive opportunity it presents for children to try on different roles and personas. We hope that the tradition allows for—really carves out one more special place for—the play of imagination and creativity in the lives of our children. HALLOWEEN COSTUME DRIVE TO BENEFIT MARTHA'S OUTFITTERS Please help us in our third year as we support the costume drive for Martha's Outfitters! Forget the Tricks! Let's collect some costume Treats for those less fortunate. EMPOWER THE HOMELESS COMMUNITY WALK FOR 2018 Each year, we use the Day School's Halloween Parade as an opportunity to raise awareness in our community about homelessness in the Washington, D.C. area. Please help in whatever way you can.
