AND THEY'RE OFF!
Seven students from the MacArthur Campus—Abigail Gray '19, J.D. Johnston '19, Margot Kennedy '19, Giles Kevill '20, Alex Meek '19, Isabel Price-Cabezas '19, and Whitney Shaw '19—along with seven faculty and staff are in flight to Haiti. Participating faculty and staff are MacArthur Campus health educator and school nurse Judy Barr; Director of Alumni and Donor Relations Chris Bolger; Grade 2 teacher Victoria Gangotena; Grade 3 learning specialist and Haiti Partnership co-chair Mary Beth James; early childhood science teacher Sam Mason; Director of Admission and Financial Aid Lindsay Spector; and, of course, faculty emerita Marcy Ference, the primary engine behind the 40-year partnership between St. Patrick's and St. Etienne, our partner church and school in Haiti.   We look forward to hearing about their adventures upon their return. 

CHAPELS CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Last week, chapels in every division celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month in both English and Spanish.

SPECIAL-CONSIDERATION APPLICATIONS FOR ADMISSION: TWO IMPORTANT DATES
It's hard to believe that it's already time to begin thinking about the 2019-2020 school year! To that end, special-consideration applications for Nursery and PK are due by Friday, November 9, and teacher recommendations for those students are due on Friday, November 30.

ALL SCHOOL NEWS

REMINDER: NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9, PROFESSIONAL DAY
Shared professional time is not always easy to come by in a busy school day or week. On Tuesday, October 9, faculty and staff will spend a Professional Day working in advance of students' return from the Fall Break Weekend on Wednesday, October 10.

CONFERENCE SIGNUPS FOR GRADES 1 TO 8 STUDENTS NOW OPEN
Parents of students in Grades 1 to 8 received an email yesterday morning with instructions for signing up for Parent-Teacher Conferences (Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences in Grades 7 and 8) using our online scheduling system, Canyon Creek Online Scheduling. Please refer to that email or the instructions below to sign up for your child(ren)'s Parent-Teacher Conference(s) by midnight Friday, October 12. Conferences are scheduled for Grades 1 to 8 on Friday, October 19, and Monday, October 22. Parent-Teacher Conferences for Nursery School and Kindergarten students, to take place on Friday, November 9, will be scheduled separately.

ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE DURING CONFERENCE DAYS AND PROFESSIONAL DAY
Playseum, KID Museum, Torpedo Factory, Children's Science Center, fall-themed activities, and more! Enjoy field trips this fall during Parent-Teacher Conference Days and Professional Days. Please note that we provide short-term, drop-in childcare during Parent-Teacher Conferences for Grades 1 to 5 on October 19 and 22. During conferences, children in Grades 1 to 5 are invited to drop in at the Elementary School Library. On Friday, November 9, drop in childcare for children in Nursery, PK, and Kindergarten will be in the Nursery School Library.  Kindly note that PAC/Extended Day does not provide full-day childcare for students in Nursery and PK on Friday, October 26, when the Nursery School is closed for the MAESA Conference. 

THIS WEEK IN THE LIBRARY - Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15-October 15
"It has been so important for me to embrace what I personally bring to the table.  Let your stories inform your voice." - Vivian Nuñez. We are grateful for the generosity of the Parents Association in granting funds to expand our  Spanish-language book collection. Materials will be available for checkout in mid-October!

STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHS NEXT WEEK - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Please email Parents Association Assistant Treasurer Whitney Rosenthal if you are available to assist with school pictures next week on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Volunteers retrieve students from their classrooms at the allotted time and help children look their picture-perfect best.

DOCUMENTARY "MISS REPRESENTATION" AT GREEN ACRES
Miss Representation - Tuesday, October 16, at 6:00 pm American society increasingly promotes and reinforces polarizing, hyper-masculine, and hyper-feminine gender stereotypes. With these stereotypes often come devastating consequences when, in reality, gender can be expressed along an entire spectrum. 

HORIZONS GREATER WASHINGTON 5K AND FUN RUN
This year, St. Patrick's is a proud sponsor of the Horizons Greater Washington 5K and Fun Run on Sunday, October 21! Grab your running shoes and join the St. Patrick's community as we take on the race together!

Mark your calendars for this annual event in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint for ecologists — a title honoring his boundless love for animals and nature.
