PATRICK'S FACULTY MEMBER CAPTIVATES TEACHER AUDIENCE AT MATH CONFERENCE Lauren Lamb Grades 7 and 8 math teacher Highlights "Paths to Empowerment" at National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference. GRADE 7 STUDENTS TRAVEL IN SEARCH OF A MORE PERFECT UNION Each year, students in Grades 7 and 8 take multiday field trips to sites relevant to their studies during the school year. While the Grade 8 students' Civil Rights Movement trip will now take place from May 21 to May 23, our Grade 7 students have returned from a three-day tour through Philadelphia, Harper's Ferry, Antietam, and Gettysburg, true watersheds in our country's often turbulent course toward A More Perfect Union. JUST DUCKY As of Wednesday, we have a duck nesting in the Church Courtyard. Early childhood science teacher Sam Mason's young student scientists put up signs urging quiet in order to protect the nest, where one egg was seen. Perhaps there will be a wild duckling splashing in the kiddie pool on the Nursery School Playground this spring. Upstairs on the Nursery School floor, duck eggs are incubating in the hallway. We have a lot to anticipate! ST. PATRICK'S STUDENTS HAVE STRONG SHOWING AT ANNUAL MAESA FAIR Last Friday, April 27, St. Patrick's students took part in the annual Mid-Atlantic Episcopal School Association (MAESA) Spring Scholars Fair, held this year at the National Cathedral School. Grade 1 students are learning about the farm-to-table process and the people who grow, raise, cultivate, and transport our food. They began with the question, "Where Does Our Food Come From?" and brainstormed ideas and questions about different types of foods. Then they became "food detectives," collecting produce stickers and labels to find out more about the origins of different fruits and vegetables. BEE AWARE! IT'S KINDNESS WEEK This week, our Upper School focused on cultivating kindness. Led by our Grades 4-8 Student Leadership Council representatives, and inspired by the national GLSEN-led No Name-Calling Week, students on both campuses are examining the power of kindness. The boys and girls lacrosse teams continue to thrive on the playing field, with both varsity teams headed to CAC Tournament title games.
