McLEAN SCHOOL
High School Placement
We are determined to prepare our students to be successful, academically and personally, here in the present and well into the future. As part of that process, we provide a significant level of support for students and families as they consider secondary school options. St. Patrick's graduates become sought-after candidates at Washington-area day schools and boarding schools elsewhere.
At St. Patrick's, students are known, respected, and loved. The Head of School and the Secondary School Placement Team use their insight into and respect for each student to find the best fit for the next step in his or her educational journey.
High School Placement Support
The Head of School, Associate Head of School/Head of Middle School, and Director of Secondary School Placement comprise our Placement Team, which plays vital guidance and advocacy roles for Grade 8 students during this important process. They conduct meetings for parents of those students to outline available secondary school options, pointing out some of the differences among schools; suggest questions to consider in relation to a specific child and his/her family; recommend a timetable for the process of investigation and application; and assiduously follow up with other schools on all applications.
Outplacement
Support
The Head of School, Assistant Head of School/Head of Upper School, Director of Outplacement, and MacArthur Campus Director comprise our Placement Team which plays vital guidance and advocacy roles for Grade 6 and Grade 8 students during this important process. They conduct meetings for parents of those students to outline available secondary school options, pointing out some of the differences among them; suggest questions to consider in relation to a specific child and his/her family; recommend a timetable for the process of investigation and application; and assiduously follow up with other schools on all applications.
Area Secondary School Attendance
During a recent five-year period, St. Patrick's graduates attended more than 20 different Washington-area independent day schools—destinations for about 80% of our graduates—and a similar number of boarding schools, most of them in the Mid-Atlantic and New England states. Our graduates' success in the secondary school placement process reflects their individual strengths as candidates, the array of choices available for high school, and St. Patrick's exceptional advocacy for them and their families throughout the process.
