Secondary School Guidance

St. Patrick’s is committed to preparing students to be successful in secondary school programs that are appropriate to the individual, to helping parents understand what kind of program would be most appropriate, and to assisting them in the placement process. Parents can promote their children’s progress by avoiding a premature focus on the next school and allowing children to grow and develop through the elementary and middle school grades.

The Associate Head of Middle School/Director of Secondary School Placement, Head of School, and Associate Head of School/Head of Middle School, who play important advocacy roles for graduating students throughout the placement process, conduct meetings for parents of those students to outline available secondary school options, pointing out some of the differences among them; suggest some of the questions to consider in relation to a specific child and family; and recommend a timetable for the process of investigation and application.

A family contemplating moving to another school before Grade 8 should contact the Head of School or the appropriate Division Head for discussion and guidance in advance of such a decision.
