Junior Program

Counselor with Children

Children in the Junior Program experience engaging activities, meet new friends, and enjoy the excitement of summer. Children spend the morning under the supervision of a head teacher, an assistant teacher, and a counselor-in-training, who introduce them to a variety of crafts, games, and activities. A typical day balances unstructured free play with time for thematic art activities, swimming, music, science, computer, and outdoor games. Field trips are arranged to parks, museums, and the local library. At midday children eat lunch and then meet in the Common Room for a sing-along.

Junior children spend part of each morning at the pool. They are accompanied by teachers and qualified pool staff who help each child gain skills and confidence in the water. Children receive both instructional and recreational swim time.

Children spend afternoons engaged in week-long mini-classes of their choice. They select from a variety of activities such as cooking, sports, arts and crafts, jewelry making, indoor games, drama, and technology. A child’s mini-class will usually be led by someone other than his/her morning teacher, and the groups are often of mixed ages. Children are encouraged to choose a different mini-class each week.

The week ends with an entertaining assembly of music, dance, puppetry, or magic. Each class participates in a Talent Show once during the six weeks. The emphasis is on fun as the children plan a brief skit and design simple costumes.

The summer promises to be filled with adventure, activity, and smiles. “What a way to spend the day!”
