After-School Activities
St. Patrick's schedules a variety of After-School Activities during the regular school year for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Sports, such as gymnastics, and in-line skating; practical skills, such as cooking and technology; creative arts, such as musical theatre and knitting; Spanish (for Kindergarten through Grade 3) are offered at various times of the year. Classes begin at 3:15 pm and usually run for 45 minutes or an hour. Parents receive a schedule of activities and fees at the beginning of each trimester.

Beginner Chess

The objective of beginner chess is to learn how all pieces move, learn and use rules in game playing, learn and write chess notation, and learn and use chess tactics and techniques. This class is for students with limited chess experience and is also recommended for younger students.
Handbuilt Ceramics

Coil pots, pinch pots, slab creations, relief sculptures, and more! In this class, students will expand and refine handbuilding skills through a variety of clay projects. An assortment of techniques will be used to finish pieces, including glazing and underglazing. Beginners and veterans welcome.

Hardage Chinese Language School (HCLS) is excited to offer Chinese for children at St. Patrick’s. The Chinese classes are specifically designed for children, and the program draws upon the Total Physical Response method, along with games, songs, rhymes, and crafts specifically designed for the HCLS classroom. All of our materials are culturally rich, providing Chinese characters and pinyin to enhance our students’ learning. We also celebrate all the major Chinese holidays and dedicate time to other culturally important events, things, and activities.

Back by popular demand, Mad Science will offer its System III module. Children will create interesting take-home projects while investigating important scientific concepts with themes such as Che-Mystery, “Fun”damental Forces, Wacky Waves, and many more.
Knitting

It’s hip, it’s fun, it’s a great stress reducer—the craft of knitting is sweeping the nation! This course is designed to accommodate beginning knitters as well as students with some experience. Basics such as understanding yarn gauge and needle sizes, the knit stitch, and casting on will be taught so that students can complete their own projects. Knitters with some experience will learn the purl stitch and perhaps even experiment with some cables! All supplies will be provided for learning and a first project.

Intermediate chess is recommended for students with significant chess experience. The class will continue to teach students the fundamentals of chess in addition to preparing some for tournament play. Students without significant chess experience will be moved to beginner chess, if space permits. Determination of class placement is based on the instructor’s recommendation.

Yoga Tales

Yoga Tales will allow children to exercise their bodies, express themselves, and manage stress. In each 45-minute Yoga Tales class, the instructor will use stories and incorporate music, toys, creative expression, and yoga. Children will have a great time and remain calm, focused, and alert long after the class ends. Yoga Tales is designed to increase strength and flexibility, improve concentration, and build confidence and self-esteem.

Learn how to design and make professional beaded jewelry (earrings, necklaces, and bracelets), just like you would be able to find in a store. Jewelry will be made from glass, metal, and crystal beads. Great for beginners and veterans alike!

Art Adventures with Color Me Mine explore visual art in several media including clay, mosaics and ceramic painting. Students will make usable items that are lead-free, non-toxic, and food-safe, including a snowflake mobile, a name wall plaque, a valentine candy dish, and more. The program focuses on technique mastery. Each week we'll uncover a different way to create.
In addition, Study Hall will be offered by Mrs. Klingenberg in the library for students in Grades 2 through 6 every day (Monday-Thursday) on a drop-in basis. Parents will be billed $8 per study hall session.
