Athletics at St. Patrick’s is an integral part of our effort to nurture the mind, body, and spirit of our students. Our athletic program mirrors our academic curriculum, in that it makes room for individuality and sets goals that will result in significant accomplishment. While we believe that physical activity is important for every student, we also recognize that levels of interest, development, and ability vary from student to student. Thus, we offer different opportunities for athletic participation: interscholastic and other intramural.
St. Patrick’s is a member of the Capital Athletic Conference at the junior varsity and varsity levels. Grades 5 and 6 students, who participate in physical education classes across the school day, have the after-school option of competing in a number of sports against other junior varsity teams from area schools. Grades 7 and 8 students compete largely against the same schools at the varsity level, but after-school participation in the athletic program is mandatory, replacing physical education as part of the school day. For Grades 7 and 8 students who do not wish either to participate in competitive athletics or to play traditional team sports, non-competitive options are available.

Upper School students who are seeking greater skill development in a team sport and who may not be ready for interscholastic competition can participate in a series of once-a-week clinics as well as seasonal intramural competition. All of these possibilities emphasize teamwork, commitment, and sportsmanship. Whatever their gifts, we expect our students to reach for — moreover, to desire to reach for — their fullest possible level of achievement.
