  • STUDENTS IN GRADES 1 TO 6 CREATE TRADITIONAL ALTAR TO CELEBRATE EL DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS

    Celebrated between October 31 and November 2 each year, El Día de los Muertos has traditional Catholic as well as ancient Aztec roots. It is believed that each year, loved ones who have died return in spirit to reconnect with loved ones on earth. Placing offerings on an ofrenda, or altar, is designed to welcome and celebrate those spirits.

More than 70 students will host more than 30 booths, supporting organizations ranging from the World Wildlife Fund to the ALS Association.     Grade 5 students recently completed a unit in math class on volume and brought their knowledge to life by developing strategies to build models and calculate the volume of their own classroom. Their group work led to a very large number—150,000,000—the number of cubic centimeters contained in Dr. Wilson’s 5A classroom.
