Parents Association Announces Recipients Of Faculty And Staff Summer Grants
This year marks the second annual award for the Educational Innovation Grant—a joint grant between the St. Patrick’s Parents Association and the school. This grant awards faculty members a substantial Educational Innovation Grant to undertake program design work that is innovative and interdisciplinary in nature and will make a significant contribution to the current and future Day School program.
This year the award goes to the Diversity and Social Justice Proposal led by no less than 12 faculty and staff members:
Erica Thompson, Rhia Hamilton, Ximoara Hall, Annie Miller, Shannon Thomas, Jonathan Fichter, Kankunda Klingenberg, Julia Smith, Samantha Fletcher, ReAnna Laney, Kim Mazzarella, and Danielle Wade.
This grant spans the course of two years and affords its recipients to study, develop and implement a framework for communicating diversity and social justice issues in the classrooms. This grant is an interdisciplinary project that encompasses Nursery through Grade 8.
Julia Smith, Grade 6 Language Arts teacher—Ms. Smith will attend The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Summer Educator Retreat. While there, Ms. Smith will expand her already deep knowledge base of ornithology, a Grade 6 unit in both language arts and science in order to encourage greater inquiry-based learning in her classroom.
Technology Coordinator, Jonathan Fichter who will receive both a stipend from the school and a gift from the PA to study and adapt curriculum that will provide all St. Patrick’s students with opportunities to create mobile apps in a variety of contexts. Mr. Fichter intends to collaborate with the schools science and math teachers to build curricular links between his study and theirs.
Director of Alumni and Parent Programs, Katherine Lea who will participate in two on line psychology courses offered by the University of Texas and the University of Boulder that will gain her heightened insight into the analysis of human conduct in social settings and an in-depth consideration of human developmental processes across the life span. Understanding the intricacies of the human connection will no doubt assist her in her duties in the Development Office.
