Parents Association Announces Recipients Of Faculty And Staff Summer Grants
Grade 1 Resource Teacher Anne Yockel will travel with her family to Atlanta, Georgia and Alabama to assist Grade 8 Humanities Teacher Ann Adams in strengthening the civil rights experience for Grade 8 students, as they take a similar journey each spring. Anne’s family will visit places in Atlanta, Georgia and Alabama that are a part of the Grade 8 itinerary; they will also explore new potential sites to add to the overall Grade 8 experience. Having Anne’s daughter Mary Rose (rising Grade 8 student) on the trip will also provide a student perspective for this critical and challenging trip.
School Office Manager/Administrative Assistant Louise Hayes will travel to Holland and England to visit public and private gardens, and observe and tour floral design centers. Louise will enrich her interest in horticulture and floral design, while being inspired by the amazing talents found in cutting-edge Dutch floral designers, as well as English designers. Louise (who, in her 21 years at St. Patrick’s, has put together countless floral arrangements for school special events) will use this opportunity to enrich her creative spirit and design several innovative and nature inspired displays for St. Patrick’s events and the main entrance of the school.
Educational Innovation Grant:
This year, for the first time, the St. Patrick’s Parents Association and the school joined forces to award a group of faculty members a substantial Educational Innovation Grant to undertake program design work that is innovative and interdisciplinary in nature and will make a significant contribution to the current and future Day School program.
This year’s winners will be working to improve STEM education for our Grades 5 and 6 students. The work will begin a multi-year process to dramatically reform the integrated teaching and learning of math, science, and technology at St. Patrick’s using principles of project based learning while introducing engineering topics not part of the current curriculum.
