Frequently Asked Questions
- What if my family cannot afford the tuition at St. Patrick's? Hide
Financial assistance is available for tuition, activity fees, lunch, and extended day coverage (until 6 p.m. on school days). Families in need of financial assistance may request the necessary information and forms from St. Patrick's Office of Admission and Financial Aid (202-342-2831/2807). Admission decisions are based on children's academic qualifications, regardless of families' financial need.
- What after-school activities are available to students at St. Patrick's? Hide
Spanish, French, video production, gymnastics, karate, school sports, and science club are among the varied choices available at the end of the school day. A math clinic and daily study hall are also available. Registration information and fees appear in the weekly Thursday Bulletin.
- I am interested in St. Patrick's, but my family is not Episcopalian. What role does religion play at St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School? Hide
Rooted in the Episcopal tradition, which encourages and fosters inclusion, St. Patrick's comprises a diverse population of families, faculty, and staff. Clear about our own identity as an Episcopal parish day school, St. Patrick's regards the presence of children and families of other faith traditions as a source of richness and strength. Religion classes (beginning in Kindergarten), chapels, and community service opportunities enable us to promote the moral and spiritual growth of our students, regardless of their faith traditions. Interested families are welcome to visit a school chapel service or to make contact with current families of their background to learn about other children's experiences in our community.
- What if my child is placed in the wait pool? Hide
St. Patrick's receives many more applications for admission than we have available seats. Therefore, we are often unable to accept children who, we think, would be excellent additions to the St. Patrick's student community. In such cases, children may be placed in our wait pool. Parents will be asked to inform the Admission Office of their interest in remaining in the wait pool, and the Admission Office will contact parents should a space become available. The composition of the particular classroom or grade-level group is a primary consideration when selecting children from the wait pool.
- What type of student is St. Patrick's seeking? Is there a testing requirement? Hide
St. Patrick's Admission Committee strives to offer admission to children whose level of development, emerging skills, and interest in the world around them indicate that they are ready for the program to which they are applying and will thrive within it. Because no single piece of a child's file can give a full picture, we seek to gain a more complete profile of each student through teacher recommendations, transcripts, standardized assessment (Kindergarten and up), and student visits to the school. We evaluate the picture of the applicant that emerges and view it in the context of the class the student would join. The Admission Committee is also mindful of creating groups that reflect a vibrant mix of backgrounds, interests, and ability.
