Beyond St. Patrick's

For more than three decades, St. Patrick’s has graduated students after Grade 6 and continues to do so. With the addition of our Grades 7 and 8 program, a significant number of students choose to move to our MacArthur Campus. Whether a student moves to another middle or secondary school or remains with us, St. Patrick’s actively supports that student’s placement at his/her next school.

Indeed, St. Patrick’s is committed to preparing students to be successful in middle school and high school programs that are appropriate to the individual, to helping parents understand what kind of program would be most appropriate, and to assisting them in the placement process.

The Head of School, Assistant Head of School and Head of Upper School, who play important guidance and advocacy roles for Grade 6 and Grade 8 students across the placement process. They conduct meetings for parents of those students to outline available secondary school options, pointing out some of the differences among them; suggest questions to consider in relation to a specific child and his/her family; recommend a timetable for the process of investigation and application; and assiduously follow up with other schools on all applications.

Across the last five years, St. Patrick’s has sent fifteen or more students to the following independent schools: The Cathedral schools (National Cathedral and St. Albans), Holton-Arms and Landon, Maret, St. Andrew’s (Maryland), Potomac, and Sidwell Friends. In that same time frame, other Grade 6 graduates have enrolled at Bullis, Field, St. Stephen's/St. Agnes, and Georgetown Day.

In St. Patrick’s first three classes of Grade 8 graduates, students have chosen to attend Maret, St. Andrew’s, Georgetown Day, the Cathedral schools, Bullis, Field, Edmund Burke, Georgetown Prep, Georgetown Visitation, Landon, Potomac, Sidwell Friends, St. John’s, Foxcroft, and Madeira, among other schools.

As that placement profile demonstrates, St. Patrick’s students—whether they move on after Grade 6 or Grade 8—are able to choose from among the most sought-after independent schools in the Washington area.
